“I began to see myself as deployed by God, not simply employed.”
When I joined Year of Transformation, I wanted my mindset about work to change. I knew I wanted to worship God through my work, but I was also aware that I could easily see parts of it as a chore, especially the ordinary or mundane tasks. I wanted to understand how even those moments could become an opportunity to glorify God rather than something I simply had to get through.
One of the biggest shifts for me was learning to see beyond the salary and recognise that God has a purpose for me in the position He has placed me in. A guest speaker described us as being deployed by God, not simply employed, and that really changed how I saw my work.
The programme also helped me focus much more on people. The teaching around loving others through my work challenged me to think differently about how I serve the people around me, and I began to develop a habit of praying for my workplace — not just generally, but in the middle of the working day: before meetings, during difficult situations and as things unfolded around me.
I’ve also learned to turn to God more readily when I face challenges or uncertainty at work. Rather than fearing ambiguity, I’m learning to step into it and trust that God will give me the grace I need as I rely on Him.
Studying with Worship.Works has given me tools that I know I’ll keep using throughout my career. I don’t just feel equipped for the job I’m doing now but I feel better equipped to follow God through whatever He has for me in the years ahead.
